I'm just wondering how many of our faithful readers are using Maximo and if so, what industry do you work in? (You do NOT have to name your company).

If not Maximo, which CMMS (if any) is being used and which industry do you work in?

I've worked with quiet a few systems to date and evaluated many more. For large multi-nationals SAP and Maximo seem to be the way to go. However, these are large captial investment material & resource management type systems as opposed to CMMS. The maintenance module in SAP is a load of rubbish. Have looked at the cheap and cheerful ones, the free ones and they all serve a purpose.

We use a paper system, but we are really small in size. If I could have whatever I wanted, and I can't, I would use MAXIMO. The new version is pretty nice. For us, it would be an improvement just to have aplace to store and run reports on history.

I saw on a recent issue of The Drift that Nobreakdowns.com is now offering training for MAXIMO. Is that why you are asking us what we use, Kim? I can't imagine us getting MAXIMO, but do you offer any other services related to CMMS's?

A low cost option with decent features would suit "the little guys" best. Suggestions? Is there a low buck CMMS worth looking at?

I work for a medium sized forest products corp. and we have had Maximo now for going on seven years. We are running it across 10 facilities on a central server. I would caution all who are thinking about purchasing Maximo to really limit what data is entered into the implimentation as the data out is only as good as the data in. Maximo is an extremely powerful tool in compiling information for an organization. It can give you an untold wealth of data, costing, equip. history, etc. but it must first be understood how it pulls all of the data into the reporting functions of maximo. If you are not going to use maximo correctly, if your going to shy away from the data entry it requires, the correct coding of the work types, the correct asset heirarchy, the entering of the correct labor, and materials, If your not going to drill down to the lowest asset to asign work then you will have invested in an inaccurate picture of the reports you want to have. As a company you will have spent millions to get garbage data, and will be unable to trust what the software gives you. I love maximo and will recommend it to anyone who will listen, but it must be understood how it works, and training is an ongoing issue that will need to be addressed to insure that what you get out of the system is accurate, and it ALL DEPENDS ON THE DATA THAT IS PUT IN!!!.

This contract uses Maximo but we are not having the success expected primarily due to lack of training. I built a CMMS using MS ACCESS on my last contract but much prefer Maximo.
