How does System in a Box™ differ from onsite consulting?

It’s a blended learning approach to re-engineering your maintenance program. We use technology to eliminate the need to use expensive consultants to do the same thing.

Instead of sending a $200/hour consultant to your site to tell you what to do, we have designed System in a Box™ to help YOU do it, while you remain in total control. No one likes to hand over control of his or her process to a stranger. So, don’t do it!

$999/month per person, and the program lasts approximately 12-18 months. Your speed may vary depending on how much work you have to do to accomplish the project.

It works great!

We have built a straightforward system that helps you systemize your process. We like to say, “The System is the Solution”. If you have a maintenance program where everything you do is structured and organized so that every single person in the process can do their job perfectly, you get GREAT results. It’s not magic, but it looks like it when you see it in action.

The basic idea:

  • We provide detailed materials throughout the program, in small portions, so you don’t get overwhelmed. This system is designed for busy people who don’t have time to read very much, and already have a full schedule. The materials are focused on individual concepts and tasks that build on each other. As you complete each module, it becomes possible to do the next one.
  • You will also be provided with a full copy of the materials in audio format, so you can listen to the content instead of reading it, if you wish. Some users find it easier to listen to the material, and it allows them to do that in the car on the way to work etc...
  • You receive access to forms and applications that assist with the development of your programs, and these are discussed with your Maintenance Coach via bi-weekly conference calls. Your Coach will be with you through your time in the program, available to help you find ways to solve problems, improve your process and do things efficiently.
  • There are many other valuable attributes of this program, which you can see on the System in a Box™ web page.

You can register for a subscription to System in a Box™ on the site. Just click on the Products menu, and select System in a Box™.

Inside the page, you can select the package you wish to try, and register to use it. Once your payment has been submitted, your account will be activated within 24-48 hours.

If you prefer not to use the online ordering system, you may also call us at (218) 327-3114 to place the order manually. Once you are set up in the system, your credit card will be billed monthly until you complete the program.

A Victim is a client in the first phase of the System in a Box™ program. Assessing how they are relating to their work environment normally identifies him or her. If you are going to work each day, expecting equipment failures and chaos, you are probably a Victim. Victims are people who are stuck in a process that is beating them into the ground, and they don’t have the tools or support to do anything about it.

We are here to offer Victims a helping hand. It does not take long to step out of the Victim phase, and become an Owner (about 1-2 months).

An Owner is the second phase of System in a Box™. As on Owner, you are no longer stuck in the position if being a Victim to a process that is designed to make you suffer. In short, you are aware of the problem, and have taken responsibility to correct it.

Some users of the System in a Box™ program enter it as Owners, while others are in more serious trouble. In any case, our system is designed to work perfectly for you, because it is driven by you, and is flexible in ways that traditional consulting cannot duplicate.

Drivers are in the third phase of the System in a Box™ program. Drivers are people who understand what needs to be done to correct the weaknesses in their current systems, and they have the skills needed to accomplish it.

As a Driver, you have proven yourself to be organized, resourceful and prepared to deal with the challenges of implementing an excellent maintenance program.

You are called a Driver because you are ready to drive the process, and are motivated to do so competently without a great deal of assistance.

A Master is a person who has reached the 4th and final phase of the System in a Box™ program . Masters have proven themselves in the execution of maintenance systemization activities, and are fully capable of implementing advanced maintenance strategies and refinement of the process.

Masters are able to teach others effectively, and are viewed as respected leaders and resources within their organization.

Yes. There is a common misconception that small companies cannot adopt best practice maintenance methods. This is ridiculous!

Small companies have the least amount of resources to waste, and therefore need to be efficient to survive. Our systems make this much easier to do.

As a small company, you have a huge advantage over the “Big Guys”, because you can make changes quickly, and beat them to the punch. Our System in a Box™ program has no boundaries that affect small businesses.

System in a Box™ helps you to get the right information at the right place, at the right time, so your 5 people can do the right work, the right way, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

If several of these statements are true for you, you need our help:

  • Consultants are too expensive
  • Consultants are not very popular here
  • Consultants can’t stay here long enough to finish the job
  • Consultants cannot offer long-term support unless we pay
  • Our equipment breaks down too often
  • Our production/operational costs are too high
  • We can’t find spare parts in our storeroom
  • We have difficulty finding manuals for our own equipment
  • We have no way to track equipment history
  • We don’t have preventive or predictive maintenance
  • Maintenance is treated as a servant, not a partner
  • I know WHAT needs to be done to fix this, but I struggle to get it done. It’s too big to handle.
  • The program is not designed to be stopped and started. Instead, we offer the ultimate flexibility, while keeping the ball rolling. You can do this program with a reasonable time commitment of 2-4 hours per week.

The reason so many initiatives fail is the ability to stop it with no accountability. So, we don’t do that. You will thank us for it in the end.

Flexibility also goes into the conference calls with your Maintenance Coach. The bi-weekly calls are scheduled to fit YOUR schedule, not ours, and they can be moved to allow for unexpected things that come up (within reason).

So, it’s not OK to stop, but it is OK to flex around quite a lot.

The bi-weekly sessions are 1 hour long, and you set the schedule for these meetings, provided your Coach does not have other clients scheduled for a slot that you want. It is quite flexible.

You may schedule one additional call during any month at no cost (up to 3 total per calendar year), if you need the extra time. This is coordinated with your Maintenance Coach.

No. System in a Box™ is designed to be delivered one module at a time, in order to maintain a clear focus on the development of the system in a logical manner. You cannot work ahead with System in a Box™, or you will fail to reach the best performance level possible for your site.

The speed of completion for the program is entirely driven by your progress, but there is a path from Point A to Point B. Staying on that path is vital to your survival as a maintenance professional.

The telephone coaching sessions are intended to help you develop the best solutions for your particular situation. System in a Box™ is not focused on WHAT you need to do nearly as much as HOW and WHY.

This is a major difference when you compare traditional consulting with System in a Box™, and it is often misunderstood.

You have problems because you do not have a completely systemized process. System in a Box™ helps you build the system, and then the problems stop. Remember, the system is the solution.

A single conference call will not fix your problems. There is no quick fix. Once you grasp this concept, you will achieve great results. If you expect your Maintenance Coach to tell you what to do, you will be disappointed.

    VISA, MasterCard, or American Express

You simply set up a subscription account on our site, and our billing application will automatically charge your card every month on the appropriate date. The application will remain accessible to you as long as the payment is made.

Your account will be deactivated if payment is not received, or you cancel your subscription. There is no refund for partial months unused for a subscription.

If you are maintaining equipment at your facility, there are certainly opportunities to improve your process.

People who DON’T need System in a Box™ are going to work each day, confident that their equipment will be running smoothly, and all of the work that they do will be fully planned and scheduled. Instructions and parts will be readily available, and repair histories for all equipment will be easy to search and analyze. Everyone knows their role, and their ability to do their job will be without question.

Leadership is impeccable, and communication is fantastic at all levels of the operation. Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and Support personnel all work together seamlessly to design out failures and reduce costs.

Does this sound like your facility? If so, you don’t need System in a Box™.

Yes, there is. We offer a package deal for sites that want to register 5 or more people for System in a Box™. The cost per person is reduced to $899/month, and the only requirement is a 6-month written commitment to stay in the program.

In order to take advantage of this substantial discount, the personnel must be located at the same site. If your company operates multiple sites, the discount only applies for sites that register 5 or more individuals.
